The Sophia Way
The Sophia Way is committed to supporting single adult women in King County experiencing homelessness move into housing. The organization began in 2008 in response to a critical need – no shelter existed then for adult women on the Eastside, and many women needed a place of safety until they could find a home. Since we opened our doors, more than 3,000 women have sought shelter, comfort, and support, and we have been able to help many of them move into their own home.
We provide women experiencing homelessness basic and essential needs, and supportive case management and housing services.
Our work is guided by the Housing First approach, an evidence-based practice that is increasingly being embraced by homeless providers across the nation. The approach views housing as the foundation for life improvement and enables access to permanent housing without prerequisites or conditions beyond those of a typical renter.
Donating to the Sophia Way helps support our Programs, including:
At our Day Center we provide some immediate services and facilities such as nourishing meals, laundry, showers, computers, phones, counseling and resource referrals.
We offer a 6-month shelter program at Sophia’s Place (our 21-bed night shelter), and during winter, shelter at nights at the Emergency Winter Shelter.
Our goal is to help women move from temporary shelter to transitional/permanent housing as soon as possible. We offer two housing programs: Holly House (a community residence) and Sophia’s Home.
Eastside Emergency Shelter
Our shelter provides a safe and supportive place for women to sleep at night. We are currently in temporary facilities and are building out a 24/7 permanent shelter projected to open in July 2020.
