About Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington

For more than 35 years, Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington has created life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses thanks to you and our incredible community of supporters!

Wishes are more than just nice; they're necessary. They have proven physical and emotional benefits that can give children with illnesses a higher chance of survival. For some, a wish is an incentive to comply with treatments. For others, it's a distraction from illness.

The pandemic has significantly impacted our mission as many wishes have been postponed, while others are forging ahead, but at higher costs. The cost to deliver a wish has increased by about 25% since the onset of COVID. That's due to supply chain breakdowns, children wishing for tangible items that are markedly more expensive than vacations, and supply and demand issues with hard costs of materials and supplies increasing.  These increased costs place an unsustainable strain on our resources and cause additional delays as we try to raise more funds to cover these costs. Your support is critical so we can grant wishes as quickly as possible now, and once the pandemic is over.

In a typical year, we grant nearly 400 wishes, but due to COVID and wish postponements last year we granted about half that. Our pending wish list is on the rise and currently at more than60 children awaiting their wishes. Will you help grant wishes?
