This is an Indian Miniature painting made from opaque watercolor and gold leaf. Pure pigments were mixed with malachite in a seashell to obtain the required colors. This beautiful watercolor comes from the centuries-old tradition of painting scenes from India's rich literary history centering on the predominant Hindu religion. The image depicts a scene from Chudamani "crest jewel"- of the Bhagavata Purana, which revolves around Krishna's great dance. The book (of poetry) centers on the great love between Krishna and his beloved, mixed with meditations upon man and god.
