This folio contains lavish 42 lavish color illustrations by Marc Chagall for Longus's immortal love story. These images were printed in offset lithography with the express permission of Chagall after the 1st edition printing in 1961. The story dates from 2nd C. AD Greek novelist Longus. Daphnis and Chloe is the story of a boy and a girl, each of whom is raised by caring people who discover them in the pasture as babes. It was signed as a dedication to Chagall’s friend Martin Riskin who he met in New York. The Martin Riskin collection was acquired by Sy Kessler, famed art dealer in NY.
