A bit brawny on the attack, Outlaw simmers down with a little air and becomes what is so special about Washington State Merlot: delicious in its youth, ageworthy and utterly world class as it reaches its peak in a generation or so. The 2017 Outlaw shows cherry, blood orange, mint, dark chocolate, sweet smoky oak and walnut on the nose leading to deeply focused fruit flavors of plum, bing cherry, blackberry and graphite all swaddled in fine tannins.
