This statement print tributes the biking tournament, Tour de France and the Mouvement des gilets jaunes, (known as the yellow vests movement) that began in Paris in 2018. The layout takes a traditional pop art approach to convey unity in numbers by repetition of the same action. In Tour de France roads are closed for the cyclists to start in France and journey through nearby countries. Just as the Tour de France expands outside of its borders so has the French yellow vest movement. Citizens elsewhere in the world, with similar grievances, have used the symbol as well. The sheep’s clothing is a pictorial re-imagination of meekness. It is a reminder of who are the blessed and what they inherit. Is it their responsibility towards morality for which they are blessed? This message originates from the Bible verse revealed at the Sermon on The Mount: Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Dubbed the populist movement for economic justice, the yellow vest movement of mass public demonstrations, are motivated by the rising cost of living and claims that a disproportionate burden of the government’s tax reforms were falling on the working and middle classes.
